Divination is probably older than organized religions.
It is easy to understand why this might be so since we can imagine primitive tribal society of hunter gatherers being mostly taken up with survival in a hostile environment and respecting someone old enough to have survived as being possessed of special knowledge .. which they did indeed possess.
